Welcome to my Ten Thousand Day Project…

But “what is it?” I hear you ask…

In early October 2021, with my 50th Birthday fast approaching, I calculated that there were 10,000 days until my 80th Birthday.

I’d also recently moved to the beautiful Rutland countryside and was taking some time away from work to recover from the stresses and strains of corporate life.

The Guardian, September 2021

Henry

The headline in The Guardian gave me some food for thought and I’d also signed-up for the ‘Go Sober for October’ charity initiative.

Then, as if by some sort of divine intervention, on a long dog walk with Henry the Dalmatian, I had an idea… perhaps just the embryo of an idea… to embark on a potentially life-changing project.

I laid out the facts before me…

  1. Statistically, I’m likely to live until I’m almost 80 (79.2 apparently)
  2. However, I’ve lived to excess for large parts of my life, albeit staying fairly fit
  3. My current job has generally led to misery for myself and those around me
  4. We’ve just had a global pandemic (Covid-19) which impacted everyone in some way
  5. In almost exactly 10,000 days I’ll be 80 years old

So, I asked myself an important question…

What if I spend the next 10,000 days doing things I actually enjoy?

OK, so it won’t ALL be things I enjoy, but if I at least look to enjoy each of the next 10,000 days in some way, even by doing just one little thing that makes me happy, then by Friday 19th February 2049 several things should hopefully have happened…

  1. I’ll still be alive
  2. I’ll be retired, but still contributing to life
  3. I’ll be about to enter my 80th Birthday weekend
  4. I’ll have done many, many things that I enjoyed doing
  5. I’ll hopefully be happier, healthier and more fulfilled
  6. I’ll have a lot of memories to look back on
  7. I’ll have created my own little piece of potted history

So, with all that said, here we go… tally ho!

Day-22 – Wagon Wheels 2

Monday saw the wheels fall off the wagon again, but 2 blips in over 3-weeks isn’t too bad going really. The day had got off to a good start with a dog walk in the beautiful countryside surrounding our village… I then got on with a few chores such as shopping and buying more paint…

Day-21 – Club Ride

Sunday was a nice club ride to Launde Abbey, although due to the location it was pretty hilly! Thankfully my hill climbing has improved though, so although there were some pretty tough climbs, overall I really enjoyed the morning. The local farms are gearing up for Halloween by offering pumpkins to pick yourself… The afternoon…

Day-20 – Belton House

On Saturday we went to meet a friend at Belton House, near Grantham, where we had a nice walk and a spot of lunch… as well as having a browse round the shop for some creative ideas… That was after I’d got up early to complete the first phase of my triple cooked chips for…

Day-19 – High as a Kite!

Another beautiful Friday saw another beautiful walk in the quarry, where I had the priviledge of watching a Red Kite patrolling the area, whilst being chased by a pair of crows at times… After the walk I spent some time doing the PR and Marketing for my cycling club, The Cyclists of Stamford, as my…
